How to give your Bathroom a Quick Makeover

In these credit crunch times, we’re all trying to find creative ways to give our homes a new lease of life that won’t cost a small fortune. Interior design can be expensive, but if you’ve got a bit of time and an ounce of creativity in your blood, you should be able to whip up a new look without the need to speak to your bank manager. As the bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the house, we thought we’d share our secrets…

Tile Paint

So you hate your tiles. Maybe they’ve seen better days, or the colours just don’t work for you anymore. Fear not, there is no need to change the whole bathroom. Simply by using tile paint you can give your bathroom a whole new look for the fraction of the price. Tile paint comes in all sorts of colours, paint it on in one go, or use it with stencil designs if you’re really confident. Once you’ve finished, smarten it up with a tile grout pen.

Window Dressing

As most bathroom windows feature patterned glass, we are often guilty of neglecting these windows. But finish them off properly and they’ll really help to make your bathroom look inviting. Try using a mix of functional blinds with ready made curtains uk to give a sophisticated look. It can look particularly stylish if you leave your long length curtains to fall delicately into a pool of material on the floor. If you’ve got room in your bathroom for a pretty wicker chair, this makes a great ‘shabby chic’ look. Or if your bathroom windows don’t have patterned glass, try using window film to add some extra privacy.

Flooring

If you live in an old house and you’ve got carpet or vinyl in your bathroom, try having a peak to see what the floorboards are like. You could get lucky and find you’ve got beautiful wide floorboards. If you do, sand them, and paint them and you’ll have a stunning floor that will really add to your bathroom’s appeal. If you’re not so lucky, you could cover your existing flooring with pretty cotton rugs.

Storage

•Upcycle old suitcases
•Transform a chair back
•Turn a ladder into a towel rail

There’s a real trend at the moment for reusing and upcycling, and as a result, many people are giving it a go. Old suitcases, old apple crates, and old chair backs can all be used to provide that much needed storage. You could also use an old wooden ladder as a towel rail. Just prime and paint and fix to your wall at an angle and you’ll have a rustic towel rail for next to nothing.

Turning your bathroom into a stylish place needn’t cost a fortune – it’s all down to taking the time to decide on your perfect style, and then finding those special pieces to transform it with. Everything from pretty long length curtains to quirky storage ideas can really give your bathroom the X factor. Just don’t be afraid to experiment.
